Set Up Free Billing Software for a Small Indian Shop
A practical opening-day checklist for creating your first correct bill.
Start with the smallest working setup
- Create the merchant workspace in the billing app using the appropriate authorized Google account.
- Choose the business type that best fits your shop, without enabling every optional module at once.
- Enter the correct business name and contact information that should appear on receipts.
- Add your top products with selling prices, units and applicable GST settings.
- Check accepted payment methods and how UPI confirmation will be verified.
- Make a test bill for cash and another for UPI, then check amounts, tax, item names and receipt formatting.
- Learn how to export the day's sales before starting real transactions.
First bill test
For three illustrative units at ₹25 each, the pre-tax amount is ₹75. Apply tax only if required and configured correctly. Check your final invoice before using it for live sales.
Only then turn on optional features
For a kirana shop, consider inventory, Khata and baskets. For a restaurant, review tables and QR ordering readiness before activating kitchen routing. See shop billing and product walkthroughs.
