58mm vs 80mm Billing Printer: Setup Checklist
Test receipt widths, tax totals and browser printing before purchasing hardware.
Choose a receipt width for the information you need
A narrow 58mm receipt can be convenient for simple counters; 80mm often provides more room for business identity, GST details and item descriptions. Actual print output depends on the printer, paper, browser and operating system.
Run a test print
- Connect a printer supported by your phone, laptop and browser environment.
- Select the intended receipt width (such as 58mm or 80mm) in billing preferences.
- Print a small bill and a long bill to check line wrapping and totals.
- If registered for GST, confirm fields and tax splits remain readable.
- Verify the print workflow after an app/browser update before peak business hours.
Before purchasing a printer
Ask the seller to demonstrate the exact device, operating system, browser and paper combination you plan to use. A printer being described as “thermal” does not guarantee browser compatibility.
For a test print, open the merchant demo; no printer performance certification is implied.
