What QR ordering should solve
For a small restaurant, QR ordering works best when it removes waiting and repeated menu handling without creating another complicated operational system. A customer scans the table QR, sees the current menu and prices, selects items, then sends a request to the billing counter.
Keep the customer flow short
Avoid customer accounts, passwords and app downloads. A table QR should open directly to the menu. Categories, clear item names, visible prices and simple quantity controls are usually enough for a first version.
Connect QR requests to billing
The useful operational step is not merely receiving a digital order. Staff should be able to bring the request into the active bill quickly, review it and add anything else the customer requests. This keeps billing as the final source of truth.
Use table-specific QR codes
A separate QR code for each table gives staff useful context without asking the customer to type a table number. The QR can encode a business identifier and table code, while the server validates that both are active before accepting a request.
Do not overbuild the workflow
Small restaurants may not need accepted, preparing, ready, served and delivered states. If the goal is lightweight ordering, a waiting request that can be imported or discarded is often enough.
Measure what matters
Useful measures include how many tables use QR ordering, how many submitted requests become bills, the average time from submission to import and whether staff find the flow faster than manual re-entry.
